Ghodbunder Fort was built by the Portuguese and is located in the village of Ghodbunder within the Mira-Bhainder Municipal Corporation. The Portuguese used to trade horses with the Arabs through this port. Hence this place got the name Ghodbunder. The Portuguese came to Thane in 1530 AD and built a fort on the hilly area around 1550 AD, but the present fort was completely built in 1730 AD. The Portuguese name of this fort was Kakabed the Tanna.
